Game 16: Pitchers Duel

The Red Sox seem to be having some bad luck right now. It seems that every time a starter gives a quality outing, the offense can’t muster off any runs and that is exactly what happened in tonights game. Buchholz was marvelous, giving up just 1 run off three hits over six innings. He also struck out 10 and was in complete control. Unfortunately, the Red Sox couldn’t get any offense going against Jake Odorizzi, except for a sacrifice fly by Nava in the second inning.

So… this game turned into a complete pitchers duel until the bottom of the ninth inning of course. The Rays’s Rene Rivera hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth, and we had to watch the Rays jump for joy all over the field. This is definitely a game we should have won and it’s so frustrating when the offense just doesn’t do ANYTHING. (especially with the lineup that we have).

The Sox will now travel to Baltimore to open a three game weekend series with the Orioles. This is the second straight weekend we are playing the reigning AL east champion O’s. Game 1 will be Rick Porcello matched up against Miguel Gonzalez, who we also faced last weekend. Let’s see if the offense can get going.
